Christina York
Christina F. York looks at writing like an all-you-can-eat buffet: she has to try a little bit of everything. She has written business and technical non-fiction, erotica, action-adventure, SF, fantasy, romance, YA, and various combinations of all of the above. Her first foray into publishing, as the ten-year-old reporter, editor and publisher of a one-page neighborhood newspaper, lasted only a few weeks. During the enforced retirement that followed, she finished grade school, high school, and college, married, had a couple kids, divorced, re-married, and eventually found her way back to writing. An Oregon native, Christina has always lived on the West Coast. After growing up in the suburbs of L.A., she spent many years in and around Seattle, moved to Eugene, Oregon, and eventually settled on the rugged Oregon coast, where she can see the ocean from her office window. She shares her home with her husband, writer J. Steven York, and a couple of very spoiled cats. Her Lady Plumber Mystery series (Berkley Prime Crime) concluded this spring with Drip Dead, and her second mystery series (also for Prime Crime) debuts 3/12 with Murder Buys A T-Shirt.

Making It as a Full-Time Writer
In the 1940s and 1950s, writing SF paid a few cents a word and an apartment in New York was $100/month. SF -- sometimes -- pays a little more now, but ... How does a part-time writer become a full time one? Can he or she do so? What are some of the differences for non-fiction writers? |

Law and Order through Space and Time
The legal system underpins our daily lives in ways both visible and not. What might a future legal and law enforcement system look like? What issues would confront and shape such a system spanning planets or galaxies? |

The Diverse World of Mysteries
Not all that long ago, most people viewed mysteries as falling into two categories, broadly defined on one side by Christie and Sayers and on the other by Hammett and Chandler. The field is now much more diverse featuring historical mysteries, police procedurals, humorous mysteries, and many, many more types. The panel looks at the broad scope of mysteries and why so many SF fans also love them. |
