Memberships - Rates and Terms
Online registration is now closed. We will be open for on-site membership sales at the convention from the morning of Wednesday, August 17.
Please do NOT send membership applications in by postal mail, as they will not reach us before our membership team leaves for Reno.
Membership transfers, CoAs and other updates must also now be dealt with in
person in Reno - we cannot process anything sent to us by email at this point.
This page contains everything you need to know about joining Renovation.
Full 5-day memberships are available for Adults, Young Adults, and Children. The tables below detail the membership rates. We also sell family memberships which reduce the cost of attendance for families with two or more children or young adults.

If you are unsure about the contents of these tables, please note the following or read the Membership FAQ.
- Click on the Description links to find out about the available categories of membership.
- Friends are people who paid us money to support our Bid; again, this means that they can attend Renovation at a reduced rate.
An Attending Membership in Renovation. A very small number of program items may have capacity restrictions or materials fees; these will be announced in advance. This membership includes all voting rights in the World Science Fiction Society. This means that you get the right to nominate for the 2011 and 2012 Hugo Awards, and to vote on the 2011 Hugo Awards. You also may attend and participate in the WSFS Business Meeting, which is held at a Worldcon and makes the rules for the Hugo Awards and the selection of future Worldcons. You will also be eligible to vote on the site of the 2013 Worldcon (subject to payment of an additional fee that makes you a supporting member of the 2013 Worldcon). You receive all generally distributed Worldcon publications, including Progress Reports and the Souvenir Book.
Supporting members can upgrade to an attending membership at any time by paying the current difference between the rates ($170 at the present time).
Renovation is pleased to offer a $30 discount on the normal Adult Attending rate to students, staff and faculty members at the three following colleges:
- University of Nevada, Reno (UNR)
- Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC)
- Western Nevada College (WNC).
Note the following terms and conditions for this special college discount:
- Adults holding discounted memberships will need to present a currently valid student, staff or faculty photo ID for their college before being allowed entry.
- Individuals who purchase discounted memberships but are then unable to attend the convention can sell or transfer their memberships, but only to people who are also eligible for the discount.
Students who will be 21 or under on August 17, 2011 can take advantage of our Young Adult rates (see below) but are not eligible for any further discounts.
Young Adult (YA) memberships are available for all people aged 17 to 21 on August 17, 2011, less any applicable voting/supporter discounts. This class of membership carries the same rights as a Full Attending membership (see above) including the rights to vote in the Hugo Awards and to receive all convention publications. Individuals in this age group can also be included in Family Memberships (see below).
YA memberships can only be transferred to people who also meet the YA age criteria.
Individuals who have already purchased Full Attending memberships, but are eligible for the reduced YA rate, can obtain a refund of their overpayment by contacting Renovation at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Child memberships are available for all children aged 16 or under on August 17, 2011 and will include around 8 hours of free professional childcare for children aged 12 or under. Children aged 6 or under on August 17, 2011 may alternatively be registered free of charge as Kids-in-Tow but with no inclusive childcare. (Although there is no charge, we encourage you to register your Kids-in-Tow as it helps us to understand the number of young children who may be at the convention).
Attending Memberships for Children and Kids-in-Tow include admission to Renovation under the supervision of an adult, but do not include publications or voting rights for the Hugo Awards or Worldcon Site Selection. Child care provisions will not be finalized until much nearer to the convention, but all children in any convention-provided child care facility will need to be registered members of the convention. Children and Kids-in-Tow may have full Attending memberships (and thus have publications and voting rights) instead of Child or Kids-in-Tow memberships, but must still be supervised by an adult.
Family memberships can be purchased for 2 adults and any number of dependent children aged 16 or under on August 17, 2011, for a price of US$500 less any applicable discounts. Children under 12 will receive the same 8 hours of free childcare as with a freestanding child membership.
Young adult family members, aged 17 to 21 on August 17, 2011 may be included in a Family membership for the additional cost of US$25 for each young adult.
A Supporting Membership includes all of the rights and privileges of an attending membership except the right to attend Renovation. You get the Hugo Award and Site Selection voting rights, and will receive all generally distributed publications. This membership allows you to support the Worldcon and participate in it without actually attending the convention. You can always upgrade your membership from Supporting to Attending by paying the difference between the "New Supporting" and "New Attending" membership rates in force at the time of conversion. If you voted in the 2011 Worldcon Site Selection election, you are automatically a Supporting member of Renovation as a result of paying your US$45 voting fee.
A Day Admission entitles you to attend the convention on the specified day(s). You do not receive any WSFS rights (hence you will not be able to vote for the Hugo Awards or in Site Selection). You will be given a printed Convention Guide when you arrive at the convention, with the full schedule of events for Renovation. Day Admission does not entitle you to receive our other printed publications but you can of course read them online through this website.
Online registration is now closed. We will be open for on-site membership sales at the convention from the morning of Wednesday, August 17. We will accept cash, US$ checks made out to "Renovation", and Credit Cards (Visa, Mastercard, AMEX and Discover).
